What Is your Soil Type?

What Is your Soil Type?

Knowing what type of soil you have can help in many ways including choosing the right plant for your soil. The type of soil you have can help determine which plants will be best suited to the area which will help increase their survival rates. To further increase survival rates, consider using Water$ave Broadarce.

The 3 main soil types are loam, clay & sand. To find out your soil type follow these steps:

  1. Take a handful of moist but not wet soil
  2. Squeeze
  3. Open your hand & see the results

Loam – it will hold its shape & when given a light poke it will crumble

Clay – it will hold its shape & will not move when poked

Sand – it will fall apart as soon as you open your hand

Loam

Covers all the soils in between sandy & clay soils. This type of soil is considered to be the best soil to grow most plants in. ‘True Loam’, the exact point between clay and sandy soil, is hard to find as loam can have properties of both sandy & clay soil. These properties can be adjusted by adding polymers, such as Water$ave Plantation & Water$ave Medium, along with organic substances such as mulch.

Clay

Clay soils are full of nutrients & hold water well. Although they can also be prone to waterlogging & compaction. Clay can also be hard to handle when wet & when dried be very hard.

Sandy

Sandy soils are loose & well aerated. They are low in nutrients & don’t retain moisture. By adding polymers, such as Water$ave HydroWater$ave Hyrdo-Tac & Water$ave Turf, moisture & nutrients can be held in the soil.
